What We Do
The Department of Energy’s Office of Inspector General (DOE OIG) protects taxpayer dollars and strengthens national security by ensuring the efficiency and integrity of DOE programs. Through independent audits, inspections, and investigations, it identifies fraud, waste, and abuse, promoting responsible stewardship of critical energy resources and infrastructure.
Operating under the Inspector General Act of 1978, the OIG has the authority to access records, issue subpoenas, and report findings directly to Congress. This autonomy ensures objectivity and transparency, allowing the OIG to address risks ranging from nuclear security breaches, cyberattacks, and insider threats to procurement fraud, mismanagement, and regulatory compliance gaps.
