This report highlights and summarizes significant audit, inspection, and investigative results during this period that have strengthened Department of Energy programs and operations for the period ending September 30, 2023.

The Federal Information Security Modernization Act of 2014 (FISMA) requires the Office of Inspector General to conduct an annual independent evaluation to determine whether the Department of Energy’s unclassified cybersecurity program adequately protected its data and information systems.

While direct weapon products at Purchased Product Value Stream had the validity of their certificates of conformance (CoCs) verified through independent testing, indirect weapon products at Purchased Product Value Stream used in the production of nuclear weapons, such as commercial off-the-shelf products, did not always have their suppliers’ CoCs independently verified.
